Hundsheimer Mountain, Austria (Hunsheimer Berg, Österreich) (Hainburgi-rög, Ausztria) 05.2010.

This May we traveled to the Hundsheimer Mountain near the border of Austria and Slovakia. This 480-meter-high mountain belongs geologically to the Little Carpathians, yet it is located on the other side of the Danube. Its flora and fauna resembles that of the Carpathians and the Pannonian Plain, so it is unique in Austria's wildlife. The soil is based on limestone and the vegetation is composed mainly of species typical of the calcareous grasslands in the Pannonian Floristic Province. Hundsheimer is a nature protection area which borders the Nationalpark Donau Auen.

A Hundsheimer természetvédelmi terület, mely a Donau Auen Nemzeti Parkkal határos.

The Burning Bush (Dictamnus albus) is a peculiar species that belongs to the mostly Mediterranean citrus family. It has very strong volatile oils and touching the plant may cause rushes. The other strange feature of these oils is that on very hot days they may spontaneously ignite, resulting in small flames above the flower.
Érdekes faj a nagyezerjófű (Dictamnus albus), mely a főleg mediterrán elterjedésű rutafélék közé tartozik.

Another, extremely rare Dianthus is also found here: the Lumnitzer-Dianthus, which was described from this area. It is only known from a few localities in the Little Carpathians and from Hungary. It is variously named Dianthus lumnitzeri or Dianthus plumarius ssp. lumnitzeri in taxonomy. This specimen was found on a stony slope.

A taxonómiában Dianthus lumnitzeri ill. Dianthus plumarius ssp. lumnitzeri néven említik. Ezt a példányt egy sziklás lejtőn találtuk.
