Eastern Bükk Mountains II., Hungary (Östliches Bükk-Gebirge II., Ungarn) (Keleti Bükk-hegység II., Magyarország) 03.2016.

In March I visited the steep, calcareous Kőszál-Slope near Bükkszentlászló and the Bánles-Hill in the Eastern Bükk Mountains. The local blue grass or blue fescue dominated rocky grassland communities (so-called Diantho-Seslerietum and Campanulo-Festucetum pallentis), and slope steppes (Pulsatillo-Festucetum sulcatae) sustain a high diversity of plant life, among others the Bükk Blue Grass, an endemic subspecies. Location: Miskolc. Date: 03.2017.

Bükk Mts., Hungary (Bükk Gebirge, Ungarn) (Bükk-hegység, Magyarország) 10.2015.

In October 2015 I visited the Bükk Mts. to collect some leaf litter material to photograph the tiny invertebrates that live under the fallen leaves. I managed to find a very high diversity of invertebrates in terms of species and also higher taxnomic categories. Location: Ómassa and Mályinka. Date: 24.10.2015.

Eastern Bükk Mts. II., Hungary (Östliches Bükk-Gebirge II., Ungarn) (Keleti Bükk-hegyég II., Magyarország) 05.2015.

We visited the eastern part of the Bükk Mountains, near Miskolc to document its fascinating plant life. The local plant associations are austrian-sessile oak forests (Quercetum petraeae-cerris), Carpathian oak hornbeam forests (Carici pilosae-Carpinetum), mahaleb cherry-downy oak bushes (Ceraso-mahaleb-Quercetum pubescentis), northern closed limestone rock meadows (Poo badensis-Caricetum humilis), and slope steppes. Location: Miskolc. Date: 12.05.2015.

Létrási Cave, Bükk Mountains, Hungary (Létrási-Höhle, Bükk-Gebirge, Ungarn) (Létrási-vizesbarlang, Bükk-hegység, Magyarország)

We visited the Létrási Cave in the Bükk National Park this October. This cave is altogether 3500 m long and can only be visited on a guided tour. It is regularly flooded but this time it was quite dry, so I could take some photos of the local fauna. Location: Létrási Cave. Date: 13.10.2013.

Bükk Mountains, Hungary (Bükk-Gebirge, Ungarn) (Bükk-hegység, Magyarország) 06.2011.

We spent a night in June 2011 with insect-sheeting in the Bükk-mountains, near a place called Bolhás-tető. Location: Bükk, Bolhás-tető. Date: 17.06.2011.

Sebesvíz, Bükk Mountains, Hungary (Sebesvíz, Bükk-Gebirge, Ungarn) (Sebesvíz, Bükk-hegység, Magyarország) 06.2011.

In June 2011 we visited the the brook Sebesvíz in the Bükk Mountains. Lots of rare insects were swarming, mainly dipteran species that favour the humidity around the brookLocation: Sebesvíz Brook. Date: 13.06.2011.

Sebesvíz II., Bükk Mountains, Hungary (Sebesvíz II., Bükk-Gebirge, Ungarn) (Sebesvíz II., Bükk-hegység, Magyarország) 04.2011.

At the end of April 2011 I cycled up from Miskolc to the Sebesvíz brook in the Bükk mountain and Bükk National Park. This is one of my favourite places for nature photography, and it is definetly one of the most interesting brooks in Hungary because it is the steepest, it has a unique fauna and it is well hidden in the forest from most tourists. I was there at the beginning of April also, see that post hereLocation: Sebesvíz-brook. Date: 23.04.2011.

Kecskelyuk Cave, Bükk Mountains, Hungary (Kecskelyuk-Höhle, Bükk-Gebirge) (Kecskelyuk-barlang, Bükk-hegység) 11.2010.

In November 2010, I visited the Kecskelyuk Cave in the Bükk mts. in North-East Hungary that has a large, about 6 x 6 m opening, located about 256 metres a.s.l. Its lenght is about 460 ms and it is home to numerous arthropods and many protected bat species. Sadly, many tourists come here (not with the guided tour organised by the NP) and littering around the cave and disturbing the local fauna is not uncommon. Location: Bükk Mts. Date: 13.11.2010.

Central Bükk Mts., Hungary (Zentrales Bükk-Gebirge, Ungarn) (Bükk-hgys. középső része, Magyarország) 06.2009

During the university field trip in June, 2009 we spent some time in the middle part of the Bükk mts. The most interesting landscape here is the Nagymező on the Bükk Plateau, a mountain pasture/meadow that was formed some hundreds of years ago when a part of the forest was chopped down. Grazing animals, mainly horses helped to maintain the treeless landscape and later this area became a refuge for many rare plants that need the cool mountain climate but can not grow in the forest. Nowadays, a herd of Lipizzans are kept here by the Bükk National Park. Of course, the arthropod fauna is also very interesting here. Location: Central Bükk Mts. Date: 06.2009.

Western Bükk Mts., Hungary (Westliches Bükk-Gebirge, Ungarn) (Bükk-hgys. nyugati része, Magyarország) 06.2009.

As a biologist student in June, 2009 I took part on a field trip into the Bükk mts. (almost entirely a National Park) in North-East Hungary. We traveled through much of the Western part of this mountain range and we also made a long trip in the central part. The weather was unusually wet for this time of the year in 2009 but this fact resulted in many flowers that were still in blossom, so, after all we had luck. Here are some photos, mainly of plants, made on that week. Location: Western Bükk Mts. Date: 06.2009.

Bükk Mountains, Hungary (Bükk Gebirge, Ungarn) (Bükk-hegység, Magyarország) 02-10.2007.

I collected some of my oldest nature photos, taken with a compact camera back in 2007 in Hungary. They mostly show species that I haven't encountered since then or that are otherwise interesting. Location: Bükk Mts. Date: 02-10.2007.
